VPC, Subnets, Internet Gateway, NAT Gateway
In AWS, VPC (Virtual Private Cloud) is a logically isolated network where you can launch AWS resources securely, giving full control over IP addressing, subnets, route tables, and network gateways. VPCs provide the foundation for building secure and scalable cloud architectures. Subnets divide a VPC into smaller segments. Public subnets host resources accessible from the internet, like web servers, while private subnets host internal resources, such as databases, that should not be directly reachable from outside.
An Internet Gateway (IGW) is attached to a VPC to enable resources in public subnets to communicate with the internet. Without an IGW, public-facing services cannot send or receive internet traffic. A NAT Gateway allows instances in private subnets to access the internet for updates, patches, or API calls while preventing inbound traffic from the internet, maintaining security.
By combining VPCs, subnets, IGWs, and NAT gateways, AWS allows organizations to design highly secure, scalable, and flexible network architectures, separating public and private resources, controlling traffic flow, and ensuring proper connectivity for applications and services.
