Persistent Disks
Persistent Disks are durable, high-performance block storage devices used with Google Cloud Platform (GCP) virtual machines. They act like physical hard drives and can be attached to VM instances to store operating systems, application data, or databases. Persistent Disks are designed to be reliable and scalable, supporting various workloads from small web apps to large enterprise systems.

There are several types of Persistent Disks:

Standard PD (HDD-based): cost-effective for sequential read/write workloads.

Balanced PD (pd-balanced): offers a balance of price and performance.

SSD PD (pd-ssd): optimized for high IOPS and low latency.

Extreme PD: best for high-end databases and latency-sensitive apps.

Persistent Disks are zonal by default but can also be regional for high availability. Regional PDs replicate data across two zones, ensuring continued access even if one zone fails. You can also resize disks without downtime and take snapshots for backups, disaster recovery, or creating new disks.

They support encryption by default, using Google-managed keys or customer-supplied keys, ensuring data security. You can attach a single PD to multiple VMs in read-only mode or use multi-writer mode for parallel writes (like in clustered databases).

Persistent Disks are fully integrated with GCP services like Compute Engine, Kubernetes Engine, and Cloud SQL, making them a key component in scalable cloud architectures.

In short, Persistent Disks provide reliable, flexible, and secure storage essential for running virtual machines and managing data in Google Cloud.
